What Is The Rationale Behind Rahu Kalam

The Rationale behind following Rahu Kalam ( For those who are Rationalists!! ). This article is purely based on a very ancient Hindu belief system. It is not backed by Empirical evidence Or Scientific Analysis.

The Rahu in Rahukalam does not refer to the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu of Hindu astrology, it refers to the colors of a group of sun-rays. As we all know "vibgyor" represents the seven colours of rainbow, if we reverse it we get roygbiv namely red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo & violet. After violet there is another group of rays called ultra violet rays which are not visible to the naked eye. If we divide the daytime of Sunday into 8 equal parts of 1.5 hours each, this will be the order in which the coloured rays will occur, in subsequent days the starting colour will be different but the sequence of colours will be the same.

Ancient tamil hindus named the period of ultra violet rays as "Rahu Kalam".

The following table will clarify things properly.

Sunday 6 -to 7.30 am red violet orange green yellow blue indigo

Monday 7.30 - 9.0 am orange ultra violet yellow blue green indigo violet

Tuesday 9 to 10.30 am yellow red green indigo blue violet ultra violet
